Gracie :)

7:55 am

We're getting ready to leave for breakfast and the hospital. It's an exciting day! Hopefully we'll have something to update you with in a couple of hours!

10:22 am (Eric)

The nurses are checking Adrien out; she's all hooked up and ready to go!

10:27 am (Eric)

Well that was quick: They just finished checking Adrien.  She's at 4.5-5 cm dilated and 90% effaced.  The nurses think this should go really quick.  They told Adrien, "The minute you feel any pain, we'll give you an epideral."

The IV is going in now.  Off to the races!

11:10 am

Mmm...7-up. :D Hey, guys! Oh.My.Gosh. If this delivery is as easy as everyone keeps telling me then I will be one happy camper. I'm thinking the epidural will probably be the most painful thing I will endure today. I'll take it! And can I just say..."I love you, nurse Julia." Seriously, I always seem to get really lucky with awesome nurses taking care of me. She is super friendly and encouraging.

I'm able to eat jello or popsicles at this point, and I can drink pretty much whatever I want. And I'm happy to announce the the ice chip amenities are indeed adequate. :) So we're just hanging out and watching TV. Sorry that there's nothing too exciting to report at this point...or maybe that's a good thing! Thank you all so much for your messages. I'm feelin' the love today; feelin' the love.

12:40 pm

The *real* contractions are starting to surface here and there! I'm just waiting to "feel the burn" so I can ask for my epidural and get this show on the road. Once I get the epidural they'll break my water and then I'm sure things will progress very quickly from there. (Don't worry mom, we'll call you so you guys can rush up here when the time comes...haha.)

We did get one surprise visitor - our friend Laura! Hi, Laura. :) Oooh, here comes a little contraction. Eric does a little cheer every time I show any sign of discomfort. I love him. I'm feeling really lucky to have such a supportive partner today. I could NOT imagine doing this on my own. And now...I'm going to attempt to unhook myself from this tangle of wires and go to the bathroom. Sorry if that's a little too much information, but man I've been enjoying my 7-up!

1:30 pm

My contractions are starting to come closer together; they feel very similar to the ones I was having Saturday night, but nowhere near as strong as I felt with Evelyn. We're starting to joke that I should just ask for the epidural so we can break my water faster. I don't think I could actually do that, but nurse Julia keeps saying, "Just tell me when!"

Evelyn is with my parents, by the way. :) She'll be coming up with them today when Grace is born. We have her big sister shirt with us, all ready for her. I am so curious as to how she's going to react. My guess is that she's probably not going to be that impressed, haha. If I know my daughter, she'll point and say, "baby!" and then try to run away and get into something. Unfortunately, we left our "Welcome Gracie" sign at home this morning. Whoops! I think my parents may be bringing it with them when they come, but it's not a huge deal either way. I seriously doubt I'm going to be worried about a piece of cardboard when I'm holding a new baby in my arms.

2:20 pm (Eric)

Wow, this baby stuff is a piece of cake!

Alrighty folks, I've been instructed that it is Daddy update time.  We're both very excited for Gracie to get here!  Here's what I've learned since my last update:
  • Adrien has informed me that the contractions are now a 5 out of 10 and she promised she'd get an epidural once they're at a 6.  And you know what that means: epidural = water breaking.  Water breaking = baby.  Woohoo!
  • Adrien is perfectly capable of blogging with an IV and multiple cords dangling from her body.
  • The coffee machine here operates completely backwards from any other machine.  If you put the water in before the pot is under the basket, you will make a mess.  Fortunately I was saved by the lady with the food trays.
  • Pascal (the French physicist and Catholic philosopher) completely abandoned mathematics as a study after a midlife religious experience.
"Against the Gods: The Remarkable Story of Risk" is a great hospital read.

So what have we been doing in the meantime?  Take a look for yourself:

I forgot how much daytime television blows.  "Whose Line Is It Anyway" was way better.

Adrien may get another update or two in before she turns the show over to me again.  Things are definitely starting to move along.  Hopefully by the time you're done eating dinner you'll have some pictures of our new baby girl to look at!

3:36 pm (Eric)

Epidural time!  Can't say much more now they're coming in any minute; gotta be there for the wifey.

4:20 pm (Eric)

Adrien right after the epidural kicked in. (For those paying attention, yes this picture was different before.  We took two, Adrien hates them both.  Apparently she hates this one just a little less, so she made me change it, haha.)

Okay, folks, Daddy's officially on full-time blog duty!  Epidural is done and they are breaking her water in the next minute or two (doc's in the room).  The nurses are saying things are going to go very quickly from now on.  We could be baby-bound by 5:30 pm!

Mommy and Daddy are ready for you, Gracie!

4:34 pm (Eric)
Now those are some contractions! (The line on the right, higher is most recent).

Epidural is done and water is broken.  Grandparents are on the way and the baby cart is even in the room already!  We could have a baby within the hour.  Adrien is feeling great.  If pushing is anything like last time then the epidural will have been the worst part (that's a good thing)!

5:10 pm (Eric)

Mommy is ready...

Daddy is ready...

The room is ready...

The baby bed is ready...

We're all ready, Gracie!

5:34 pm (Eric)

One or two more contractions and it will be time to push.  Next update will be with pictures of Gracie!
