Savings Sunday!

Cha-ching! Cha-ching! It is officially that time of year again, when businesses big and small offer deals to one and all. Discount stores begin stocking a limited number of something-or-others to get people through the door, department stores run their "biggest sale of the year" every weekend, and even restaurants capitalize on the spending spree by creating special deals of their own.

So what's a good deal, and what's not? Well, that depends on you! This year I would like to offer a personal challenge to all of my friends and family to shop frugally and search out the best deals when purchasing gifts for their loved ones. In order to help out with this challenge, every Sunday from now until Christmas I'll be sharing all of the latest sale information that I have received, and I hope you'll share some of your finds, too! But a word of caution: Don't get sucked into the hype! A deal is only a deal if it's an offer on something you were already planning to buy.

This year, instead of opening up the ads and THEN deciding on what gifts to purchase (because this is what the businesses want you to do!), create your gift lists and then research those specific items you have chosen to see which stores/businesses are offering the best deal on that particular item.

Before I share my finds for this week, I have to brag! I am so excited to say that Evelyn's big Christmas present is already purchased for this year, because I knew exactly what I wanted to get her, spotted a great deal, and grabbed it while I could. Whew. It feels wonderful to know that the one thing I wanted her to have most of all will definitely find it's way under the tree. If you've been following this blog from the beginning you know that Eric and I are on a tight budget, making me even more proud that I was able to pull this one off. You wanna know what it is?

Evelyn's very first kitchen set! Woot! This particular kitchen set, Fisher Price's Grow With Me Cook and Care Kitchen, is awesome because you can actually adjust the height to grow with your child. I'll be honest, when I began my search for Evie's gift this year I didn't have a specific set in mind; I just knew it had to meet certain criteria: It had to be sturdy, it had to be space saving, and it had to be affordable. When I saw this kitchen I knew it had to be ours! It was significantly less than other sets I had seen. This kitchen retails for $70.00 (I did not pay that much!) Yet it still has all the bells and whistles of some more expensive sets. (It makes noise, comes with accessories, etc.)

So when I opened up our Babies 'R Us sales flyer last week and saw that there was a special on this kitchen I texted Eric right away, and we made our way to the store that night. While there wasn't a sale on the list-price of this item, I knew that we still had a $20 Babies 'R Us gift card to use which could help differ the cost. But what really reeled me in? When you purchase this set, you get a FREE item with it. And what did that free item happen to be? None other than the one other gift that I knew for sure I wanted to get Evelyn this year: a play shopping cart!

For $50 I scored both of my "must have" items that were worth approximately $92.00 together. This deal was tailor made for me. But why was it so awesome? Because it included the two things I was...say it with me...already planning to buy. :) This offer is still going on through November 24, but only while supplies last!

Now for the deals! Most of the offers that I am sharing today are Gift Card savings. These are offers that may not be just for gift giving, but they could benefit you as well.

*Fisher-Price is running their annual free shipping promotion from now until November 14. No sales tax, either! Check the items that are already on sale to get the biggest bang for your buck.

*The Children's Place is offering $10 gift cards for every $40 in gift cards purchased. If you know you're buying clothes here in the future, here's a great way to double up on savings. Once the gift cards are purchased, you can use any offered coupons on top of those when you redeem the cards! These cards can be purchased online or in-store.

*Best Buy is offering $10 gift cards with the purchase of 2 Blu-Rays or $5 gift cards with the purchase of two DVD'S.

*Barnes and Noble will give you a $10 gift card with the purchase of $100 in gift cards.

*Borders is offering a $10 gift card when you purchase $50 in gift cards.

And if you LOVE to eat:

*Romano's Macaroni Grill is offering a $5 bonus card for $25 spent on gift cards.
*Outback Steakhouse is offering a $20 bonus card for spending $100 in gift cards.
*Qdoba is offering a $5 voucher for every $25 spent on gift cards.
*P.F. Chang's is offering a $10 "Be Our Guest" card with every $50 spent on gift cards.
*Red Robin is offering a $5 gift card for spending $25 in gift cards.

So there are a few deals I'm sharing this week! I know there are tons more out there, so please feel free to share your favorites with us in the comments. I anticipate even greater, more awesome offers as we get closer to Christmas. While we all know the meaning of the season isn't about spending money, it's always nice to save a little and be good stewards of our finances. Please consider taking my challenge this year, and check back next Sunday for more deals!

People might think im crazy...but when the girls were little i would start Christmas shopping right after the previous Christmas when all the toys and goodies were on clearance. That doesn't work much anymore, but i still keep my eye open all year for sales. Im happy to say that i am almost done Christmas shopping. Not only can you get great deals shopping early but you don't have to worry about a gift you really wanted to get being sold out.
For hobbyist or Christmas decor: Hobby Lobby has a 40% off 1 item coupon that you can print off their website.
JoAnns Fabric has a Veterans Sale through Saturday.
