Grandma Zada

Just minutes ago I learned that Eric's grandmother and the girl's great grandmother Zada passed away last night. She was 95 years old. It's going to take a little while to process this, but our hearts are very heavy today. Please pray for our family, especially Eric, as we go through this day and the following days. I hope he doesn't mind my sharing this, but I never heard him speak of anyone with such love and reverence as he did he when he shared stories of his grandmother. My heart aches more knowing how much this must be hurting him today.

We shared Grandma Zada's 95th birthday with you in January, and I'm so glad for the precious moments our girls were able to spend with her these past two years. Grace especially loved to reach up and touch Zada's face, which always made me smile.

We will still be celebrating Grace's birthday this evening with our family and friends. Zada lived a very full life, and so tonight we will honor the blessing of life and all that we have been given by surrounding ourselves with people that we love.

As the clocked ticked by late last night and I was finishing up the slideshow for Gracie's first year, I saw the pictures of grandma Zada holding a newborn Gracie exactly one year ago today - the day we brought Grace home from the hospital. And I wondered how many more birthdays we would get to share with her. :) I remember sitting in the hospital, getting ready to pack our things and begin our life as a new family...and Eric looked up at me with an almost pleading expression and asked if we could stop at his grandma's house first before going home. Grace's first visit, even before home, was to Grandma Zada's. I'm so thankful for the memories of that day.

So hug your family tightly for us today. We'll certainly be holding our loved ones a little closer, too.

We're looking forward to celebrating life tonight. It means more to us in these moments than ever before.  Love to you all...hope to see some of you in our home sharing family times with us today. Because you don't have to be related to be family. :)
