Operation Christmas Child

I know, I know....Christmas?? Jumping the gun a bit there, Adrien. :)

But it's definitely the right time to share with you something amazing that our family will be participating in this year. I really wanted to post this AFTER we had put together our gift for Operation Christmas Child, but it's going to take us another week to do it, and I wanted to make sure you have enough time to participate in touching children's lives around the world this year, too.

I think we sometimes take for granted where we were born and all of the little things we have, like toothpaste and toys for the kids that we love. We start brainstorming Christmas lists months in advance, and while we sometimes complain or joke about the expense of Christmas, none of have ever known true poverty the way that others around the world have.

Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful way to share love with kiddos who don't have the same luxuries that we do. It's simple: you pack a shoebox with little toys, hard candy, coloring books, hygiene items, school supplies...you know, that kind of stuff. :) Wrap the box (lid separately) and take your gift to a drop off location to be sent to Samaritan's Purse. And then Samaritan's Purse will deliver your box to one child in another country across the globe. Our church in Red Bud has been participating in Operation Christmas Child for several years now, and this will be our FIRST year packing a box for kids in need. I cannot wait to take Evie to the store to pick out our items, and it will be a wonderful way to begin teaching her about giving. It's like a Christmas "Boo" getting sent halfway around the world. Awesome. :)

Check out these videos on Operation Christmas Child. Watch them all, or pick one that fits you! (Haha. I couldn't choose, I love watching all of these videos.) For some reason it's only publishing the Dave Ramsey video, but click the links to see the rest!

If you're a couponer, check out this video from SouthernSavers.com

If you looove Dave Ramsey like we do, check out this endorsement:

Or follow recording artist Matthew West to Target as he shops with his family

This page will give you all the information you need to pack a box of your own! [ Don't worry about the $7 donation. I got your back. :) ]

There are a few items that you should not pack in your shoebox, like liquids, glass items, or military toys. Many of these children are from war-torn countries, so toy guns and knives aren't a good idea. :)

If you would like to pack a box of your own for Operation Christmas Child, then you can bring your donation to First Baptist Church of Red Bud any Sunday morning between now and November 13th. OR, I would be happy to take your box for you. Just drop it off at my home, and I'll make sure it gets to the right place. If you don't live in our area, check out www.samaritanspurse.org/occ  to find a drop off location where you live!

This is a wonderful ministry for a wonderful orginatization. Please consider helping Samaritan's Purse reach their goal of 8 million boxes, and think about teaching the littles in your life about the gift of giving this Christmas season!

Thanks for the info. I knew your church did that I could not remember when. I am definitely going to get a box together.

I adore this idea! We always "adopt" a child or family around Christmas, but we'll be giving this a shot this year. I can't wait to get the packages together, my head is already spinning with ideas!

This is AMAZING! I love it! I have never heard of this before. I am for SURE going to do this from my family this year. I would also love to share this with the people at my work office. Is this okay?
The only problem is that I would have to bring the boxes to you and I wouldnt know how many yet. Can you take a bunch? I just dont want to overload you, but I know I will not be able to bring them to your church on a Sunday. Let me know, then I will spread the word!
Great idea!
