V-Day and my Quirky Habits!

I'm pooped!

First of all, thank you to everyone who donated to baby Abby over the last week! The $1500 goal was surpassed yesterday, and it warms my heart to know that so many people who didn't even know this precious child were willing to help out in any way that they could. Thanks to Heather for facilitating the opportunity to give. :)

So yesterday morning was kind of hilarious, to tell you the truth. We had a great Valentine's Day, but it began in a groggy state of confusion. Early in the morning Gracie had woken up and Eric brought her to me while he began to get ready for work. At some point, I started slipping right back off to slumberland. That is, until I heard the rustling sound of paper coming from the kitchen, and I FREAKED out. I thought that Eric was long gone and that I had fallen asleep while my one year old was running amuck throughout the house. There was a present waiting for the girls on the kitchen table, and my heart sank as I thought that Gracie had discovered it already.

So within a second I dashed from bed and ran like lightning into the kitchen where I saw Gracie sitting on the floor. Hmm...where could that sound have been coming from? And then I look up and see Eric standing at the counter fiddling with something, and he shouts, "What are you doing?!"

Haha. Apparently I wasn't allowed in the room at that moment. I didn't even see anything, because my eyes were still trying to focus on the world around me, but as soon as I got back to the bedroom I started cracking up. Poor Eric. He tries so hard to surprise me sometimes, and I think I often find a way to fudge his plans one way or another. :)

Eventually I was granted the pardon to enter the rest of the house, and we woke Evie up to see her Valentine's Day goodies before Eric had to scoot out the door.

We never do big things for Valentine's Day, but I just can't resist an excuse to have a little fun with the girls. The night before I had arranged a basket filled with just a few things for the girls that I picked up at The Dollar Tree - cute and cheap. Little did I know that Eric had gotten the girls a gift, too. They each received new tin purses which were FILLED to the brim with candy. (Oh my gosh, we ate SO much candy yesterday, even I wanted to puke. I'm hiding the rest!)

Evie and Grace had fun playing with their new trinkets, watching movies, and cuddling most of the morning. Later they each received their very own mail, which is always a treat. Thanks mom and dad for sending the cards! And Eric's mom stopped by to bring the girls gifts, too.

Evelyn is showing me two Reece's cups, which she says are boyfriend and girlfriend.

Our favorite part of the morning was when Evie, in all of her excitement, said, "Thank you God for loving!" Haha. It was deserving of one of those parent looks, you know...when we're both thinking, could our kid possibly get any cuter right now?

We had a low-key dinner and just hung out last night. Eric received his traditional hand-made-with-love card from yours truly, and we let the girls run wild and destroy the house while we attempted to have a stay at home date of sorts. It was a typical Valentine's Day, which is typically wonderful for us. :)

Today's ABC Blog Challenge is brought to you by the letter Q: Quirky Habits

I have a lot of quirky habits.
But there are two that stand out in my mind.

1.) I talk to myself. All of the time. And not in the way that I assume most people talk to themselves. In my mind, most people talk to themselves when they're trying to remember something, like a grocery list. Or maybe they grumble out loud when someone ticks them off. This, in my opinion, is totally normal. But I have full-fledged conversations with myself, which if ever viewed from afar, would probably look as if I were chatting with an invisible person. I make up scenarios in my head and just start talking about them. I might interview myself about a crime that never happened while I'm loading the dishwasher. I write stories...out loud. And then never actually write them down on paper.

I told you, it's weird. I've even looked online to see if there's a medical term for this weirdness, but so far I have not been able to find it. I've been doing this since I could talk....just ask my parents. Eric didn't learn this about me until after we were married, and it's only because I told him. :) I'd be mortified if he actually caught me doing it! I'm afraid I'm a bit of a psychopath, but hey...if I ever had to be a hermit, I'd survive just fine.

2.) I cannot STAND the feeling of my hands going from wet to dry. I'm okay with wet hands. I'm okay with dry hands. But the in-between makes my skin crawl...eeee....I can't even stand thinking about it. If this isn't a problem for you, then you probably don't even have a clue what I'm talking about. Even I can't explain why this is such a problem for me, it just is.

So as soon as I get out of the shower, or wash my hands, or jump out of the pool, or do anything that involves getting the palms of my hands wet, I have to glob on copious amounts of lotion. And then I reapply several times until the icky feeling goes away. If you ever see me at the pool attacking a lotion bottle, now you know why. :) This, too, has been an issue for me my entire life. Only, when I was little, I didn't know the lotion trick so after I would take a bath I would keep my hands balled up in tight fists until the feeling went away.

How's that for quirky? I'm a regular 'ole weirdo. :)

Hope you guys are having a good week so far! For some reason it's draaagging for me - it's only Wednesday? Come on, weekend!

OMG...I am the same about #2!!! I have to wear rubber gloves when I wash dishes because I can't stand the way my hands feel after!!

Hey, I sent you an email. It's kind of meant for Eric but I'm using you as a middle man.

Got it and sent it along! If anyone can figure it out, it's Eric. :) That's crazy that you have the hand thing, too. Rubber gloves are my best friend!

HAHA, good eye, Angie. Nope, no pictures yet! I don't think Eric got the purses at Dollar Tree. If I had to guess I would say Walmart. :)
