Fourth of July Fun

Goodness, I am so backlogged on things to blog about, because we've been cramming in a lot lately! I think I'll just break it down and play a lot of catch up this week. Let's start at the very beginning...a very good place to start. :)

We had a fantastic Fourth of July holiday with a million reasons to get together and spend time with family. Aside from the typical barbecue and fireworks celebrations we gathered for my brother Justin's 16th birthday and also for what my sister thought would be the last family party before she left for boot camp. (Hmm...wonder if she was right about that one! Haha...hint hint...foreshadowing...hint.)

But that's not to say that there wasn't a lot of barbecue or anything, because oh yeah there was.

Eric: the grill master, haha. We don't mess around with gas grills. Mmm...

Thick juicy steaks, corn on the cob, baked potatoes...I'm just going to stop there, because it isn't fair to torture myself on a Monday morning.

The kids table. :) My sissy chopped off all of her hair for boot camp!

The kids splashed around in the pool for a bit. Here's a rare look at Mr. Reagan in his swimming trunks. :)

If he doesn't have his own fingers in his mouth, then he must have someone else's.

After we stuffed ourselves good and full we decided, "Hey, let's eat cake!" Don't you just love holidays? I know I do. And since this one happens to fall the day after a family member's birthday, well, there are just extra reasons to eat a lot celebrate.

Evie just loves that Happy Birthday song, haha.

Soon the sun began to set, and it was time to stake out a place to watch some fireworks. Eric and I always buy a good supply of glow items to keep the kids entertained while we're waiting. And we make sure to bring extras, because we always make some friends to share with. Several folks had started showing up and sure enough, their little ones wanted some glow sticks, too! Never show up unprepared when glow sticks are involved, haha.

Grandpa was shooting off bottle rockets. In every man there is a little pyromaniac.

I seriously have no idea how these pictures came out so light, because when I changed over one camera setting...

...it showed how dark it truly was.

So weird!

The fireworks were delayed this year, and we started to wonder if they were going to happen at all. It's kind of a strange situation finding yourself sitting out in the middle of nowhere in the dark with some strangers, waiting for what could be nothing to happen, haha. We were about to pack it in, when finally the fireworks started. And we couldn't see them. Baha.

The same spot we always watch fireworks from was now blocked by a bunch of trees. So we hurried up and packed up all of our stuff and drove up the highway a bit.

We watched for a little while and then took our sleepy kiddos home. On Saturday night our neighbors had some really awesome fireworks that rivaled the ones we saw on the 4th, and it was just as much fun watching them from our windows and back porch!

I think our family is going to be on the lookout for a new fireworks tradition in the future. If you're local and have a spot you love to go to, let us know! We'd really like to try something new.

We had a wonderful day celebrating with family. I looove summertime for all of the family time we get. I hope you had a great day, too, my friends!

Man, your sister looks JUST like your mom now!

We usually go to Valmeyer for the 4th. Theirs are always pretty good.

We always go to Columbia for fireworks. It is always a great show!

I think so too, Heather. :)

It's funny, Valmeyer and Columbia were the two I had heard about and was thinking were good options for next year. We'll definitely have to do one of those!
