Holiday Overdrive

Holy moly.

It's time for us to take our holidays back! Two weeks from today it will be Christmas. We haven't done ANY of our normal holiday traditions yet. None. No elves or Santa. No gingerbread houses. No lights. No parties. No Christmas card photos. We've missed everything.

I knew weeks ago that this particular week was going to be hard. One of those weeks where it's just a lot of little things that add up at once...doctor appointments, dentist appointments, Christmas programs...and then when we found out Grandpa Robert wasn't doing well, I knew it was going to be especially hard. We were called from his funeral on Tuesday to pick up Gracie from school because she had pink eye. So on top of everything else, we've been dealing with another illness in the household. Reagan has seemed to dodge the bullet - hope it stays that way! And both Evelyn and Grace are back to school and ready for their Christmas programs tomorrow. But whew - getting us to this point! It's been a challenge.

The house is a disaster. It's hard to feel it this year. We dust ourselves off from the last illness or setback and get kicked right back down again. I can't think of one more thing that could possibly go wrong, so now we have TWO WEEKS to fit it ALL in.

Oh wait! There was one thing we managed to squeeze in last weekend. It was our annual cookie baking extravaganza with my mom. :)

Had to swipe this picture from my own Facebook page.

She gets all of the credit this year. Thank goodness she had bought all of the ingredients and mixed up all of the cookie dough the night before. All I had to do was show up on Saturday and help scoop out some dough! It still took us the better part of the morning and afternoon, and the kids had a lot of fun playing, helping, and the pinnacle of it all - eating lunch at grandma's. I have no idea why they think this is so great, but as soon as they hear the words "We're eating at grandma's today," they all burst out in jubilant cheers. I wish they would get that excited when I make them a hot dog. :)

I have lots of pictures from this day, which I may show you later...but I can't today. Because today my computer is in the "shop" getting an alcohol bath and being aired out. I spilled soda on the keyboard last night.

Yes, I did that. I am telling you, this was our week. I'm on Eric's computer today, which he has loaned me under some pretty strict guidelines. (Don't blame the poor guy. His wife is a klutz.)

On the upside, we had another great report on Charlotte this week. She is not only measuring on time, she is measuring big - so it doesn't look like her gimpy cord is slowing her down. :D Love that kid already, so much it hurts.

I also want to thank everyone for their kind words in the passing of Eric's grandpa. I thought the memorial service went very well this week. Before we were called away Eric was able to speak at the funeral and share some memories. We're thankful for the life that he had, and we are praying for the rest of the family that this first holiday without grandpa will still be filled with lots of joy.

Now...it's back to house cleaning for me. I need a clean slate so that we can kick it back into gear. You do not want to see the pile of laundry I have waiting for me. I'd take a picture...but no. It's just too shameful. :) Hope you have a good rest of the week!
