Spring Sprucing

I was telling Eric the other day that I didn't realize how much energy I had really lost during my pregnancy until I got it back. Even with an extra addition it has been so much easier to get things done around the house lately, and I've been truly enjoying it more than I have in a long time. It doesn't hurt that Spring gives everyone a good kick in the pants to get things cleaned up and spruced up!

Since the beginning of our marriage Eric and I have lived in a mismatched concoction of college furniture and inherited furniture...any old decor we could find to fill the walls and whatever was on clearance that we picked up along the way. Quite honestly we didn't have time to care nor the allocation in our budget for extra things. We were so focused on getting those ridiculous loans paid off that we said "To heck!" with all of that stuff. Furniture could wait. Pretty things could wait. We actually recycled a ton of our wedding decorations for our home decor, haha. And since we had a Fall themed wedding that meant that our house has always been filled with burgundies and burnt oranges, browns and yellows. It was very cozy, but I was beyond ready for a change!

We've jumped now from warm to cool - everything around here is blue and green with a bit of yellow thrown in. It's like a breath of fresh air. I'm not done yet, but today I'm sharing a few of the new things we've picked up and some areas of the house that have been re-organized - as always, with the disclaimer that I am no decorator, haha. I just like new stuff! ;)

Thank goodness for Target. They have been having great sales on home stuff, and I've placed several orders over the last few weeks - in part thanks to Swagbucks, where I've been cashing in for Target gift cards! Here are two of the orders that I put in recently. A new welcome mat for the front door, rugs for the kitchen, table linens, curtains and curtain rings, mirrors, and one of my favorite things - a white pitcher to be used as a vase.

Our breakfast area has gotten an update with some of the new things set out. Someday I'll have a real dining room. :) The pitcher is waiting for the blue, green, and white hydrangeas that I have on order. Can't wait until they finally get here!

I also changed out the display in our china cabinet to include the silver pieces we have inherited from Eric's Grandma. I LOVE it.

The silver looks great with all of the blues. I was just so tired of "saving" the nice things that we had in storage. Time to start bringing some of it out!

The tray on the left was a wedding gift from grandma and the rest we picked out one day from her collection. The tea service is so beautiful! There is also a pretty silver rimmed bowl that you can barely see in this picture. Now I want to fill this cabinet with silver. :D

The living room received some new curtains as well (same as the dining room) and I'm still figuring out what to do with this shelf:

For now I have one of the new mirrors propped up between a couple of mini-pails with flowers. (And beneath an extremely dirty air vent I still need to clean, haha.) This was a total basement-dive display. :)

The opposite wall remains the same. I wanted to get a new large piece of artwork to put there but decided that I would rather wait on canvas prints of our family instead. The Robert family is FINALLY going to get some professional pictures taken. Now that we're complete we'll make the splurge. ;)

The burlap wreath is still hanging, and here's a terrible picture of it:

I love these things, because you can just change them up with each season! I just whip up a new bow when the next holiday comes around. I think we'll keep this one up until the Fourth of July.

And of course, the DIY sunburst mirror found a home in our bedroom:

I was going to hang it over our bed, but decided I wanted to see it more myself, haha.

Then there were just a ton of little projects that needed to get done around the house. You know the kind, where once they're done you ask yourself why you didn't take care of it long ago. One great example was our kids' shoe situation. Ay yi yi....

I don't think this one really needs an explanation....

Duh. Finally.

Over the past six months or so we've gotten new living room and bedroom furniture as well as rugs and bedding and all of that stuff. Truly, I think we've changed out just about everything but our dining room furniture since Thanksgiving. I'm still on the hunt for a new dresser for the kiddos and a tv stand for our living room, so if you see any great deals - hey - help a sister out! :)

There hasn't been any one huge thing I've changed up this Spring. I didn't really spend a ton of money. It was just a lot of little things that have added some color and made spending time around here just a little more fun. The added bonus: buying new things for your house makes you WANT to keep it cleaner, haha. We're all less stressed and happier when everything is in it's place. Hope you've been able to get some projects done, too! And if not, well...Target is still running great sales, so...you have my permission to go buy yourself some new things and get some motivation. Hey - worked for me! :D
